Dr. Parekh and his staff have given me my life back!
Total Ankle Replacement— My initial injury to my right ankle was a Talus fracture and a laceration that required nearly three hundred stitches suffered in a bicycle versus vehicle accident. In the years since, I have endured multiple surgeries and several different types of treatments, including Custom Insoles for my shoes, Physical Therapy, and Corticosteroids Injections, etc. Arthritis and Joint Degeneration continued to worsen to the point I could barely walk and I was NEVER without SEVERE pain!
In January, 2013, I had an appointment with my Orthopedic Specialist in Lexington, Kentucky, at which another injection was administered and was advised to have an ankle fusion. At this stage in my life, I knew I didn’t want to live the rest of my days with a right ankle that had been surgically locked in a 45o angle. I began to do my own reading and research on Total Ankle Replacement, eventually finding Dr. Parekh and the North Carolina Orthopaedics Clinic.
I had my surgery on November 12, 2013, at Duke Regional Hospital. I knew immediately when I awakened from surgery that the pain was finally gone. IT CONTINUES TO GET BETTER EVERY SINGLE DAY! I can walk stairs, inclines, and ramps again like a normal person, a task I hadn’t been able to do in several years. Dr. Parekh and his staff have given me my life back! I will forever be grateful to each of them for what this surgery has done for me. I even have aspirations of being on my Snow Skis once again!!
